ARMed-HARMONY

Description of work

This work package will evaluate current infection control policies and practices in the Mediterranean partner countries through the use of structured questionnaires.

  • Participants will be requested to provide feedback on current knowledge of hospital-acquired infection (HAI) surveillance and infection control policies, personnel and practices in their individual countries by means of a questionnaire.
  • HARMONY questionnaire tools will be adopted based, on the information received, to
    • describe the current national guideline and policy development processes in each country
    • examine the applicability of "bottom-up" produced central line and urinary catheter guidelines
    • explore common documentation of certain types of information to increase the potential for added value of surveillance of antimicrobial resistance, device-related infection
    • increase the knowledge underpinning other activities e.g. typing and organism databases
    • develop a tabular approach to documenting the antimicrobial resistant organism outbreak control guidelines in the participating countries.
    • evaluate antibiotic policies and process control in the participating countries.
  • After the questionnaires have been discussed and finalised, data will be collected by month 25. and analysed. The results will be presented to the participant countries and appropriate tools for policy design will be finalised. A workshop on infection prevention & control will be also be organised.
  • Results, guidelines and tools developed will be posted in the ARMed website and data fed back to the appropriate healthcare workers
